Growing up in the Edmonton area, EWAR (Nicholas Bartlett) has always had a passion and skill for music and audio. At the age of 12, he began learning to play the drums, and at 14 he began producing. In Highschool, he was highly decorated with performance awards for his involvement in the Contemporary Jazz Band, directed by Rob Graves, head of the ABA. After highschool, he went to Pixel Blue College to get a Digital Audio Production diploma, learning from Canadian rap mixing engineer Umesh Sahajpal, famous for his work with Nappy Roots, and Pill. It was during this time that Nicholas’s style shifted drastically, moving from downtempo and jazz infused productions to heavy bass, and melodic movement. After College, Nicholas worked as a traveling contract Video DJ for Much Music (A Canadian Music TV Channel) playing High School dances and College parties across the country. It was here that he honed his live performance skills, and learned to read and control a crowd.
His first release under his new alias EWAR, Bigger Than Ever, came out in March. It garnered over 2000 views in one week on an account with no followers. As of June 2015, he’s had explosive growth in only 3 months. With 16,000 cumulative views on 4 songs, and over 1,200 followers. With his melodic, urban infused take on EDM, he’s someone to keep an eye on.
